What do I tell my daughter?
Do I tell her that her grandpa is worth more than her grandma?
That her dad is worth more than her mom?
Do I tell her that despite her education, her drive, her skills, her intelligence… she will automatically be valued as less than every man she ever meets?
Man in Audi Voiceover
Super Bowl LI had millions of viewers on the edges of their seats. Other than the Patriots' furious comeback, viewers were fortunate to see multiple commercials focused on progressive causes. One of the frontrunners for best Super Bowl commercial? Audi. Audi's ad hit home with a special message regarding gender equality and equal pay at the workplace.
For decades now, the California Equal Pay Act has prohibited employers from paying its employees less than employees of the opposite sex for substantially similar work. Yet, in most instances, women are still paid significantly less than men. Indeed, studies have shown that in 2015, women made 80 cents for every dollar a man made, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Messages like the one Audi promoted help the ongoing effort to close the wage gap. Many viewers felt as though Audi scored a few points with this ad. And to that, we say touchdown Audi!
